Guided Walk: Rivers, Wildlife & Local History

Join us to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Viking Way with a relaxed, guided walk along one of its most beautiful sections near Donington on Bain, in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds. This special anniversary walk is a chance to explore landscapes shaped by water, history and people, while marking half a century of this much‑loved long‑distance trail.

This circular walk takes in rolling chalk downland, peaceful farmland and a rare chalk stream, offering stunning views and rich opportunities to learn more about the history of Donington on Bain, the importance of chalk streams, and the wildlife they support. Keep an eye out for birds along the water, stream plants, and trout in the clear, fast‑flowing stream.

Along the way, you’ll also hear more about The Rivers Trust and the work being carried out by East Mercia Rivers Trust across the River Witham catchment, including river restoration, habitat improvement and community‑led action for healthier rivers.

🛡️ Viking dress‑up welcome!

Calling all Vikings, shield‑maidens, explorers and history lovers!
If you fancy dressing up, you’re very welcome, though it’s entirely optional.
Come and join us for a social stroll across the Wolds, Viking‑style, bringing together local history, rivers, wildlife and good company to celebrate this milestone year for the Viking Way.
